The Future is Food

Monday, May 16th, 2016

Bord Bia and The Taste Council of Ireland are steering an innovative and experiential learning programme which involves thousands of Transition Year students from all over Ireland taking on a project, titled “The Future is Food”. The aim of this project is to engage the younger generation with Ireland’s Artisan Producers.

Evan Doyle, proprietor of BrookLodge & Macreddin Village and the Transition Year students of St. Mary’s College Arklow along with the helping hand of their teacher Ms. Aine O’Keefe have teamed up to take this project head on.

The Transition Year students came along to Macreddin Village to meet their mentor Evan and were given a tour of the Village including the Kitchens and The Strawberry Tree’s Wild Foods Pantry followed by a Wild Foods MasterClass. The Wild Foods MasterClass was led by Evan with the help of James Kavanagh – Head Chef of The Strawberry Tree and Clothilde Walenne, Macreddin Village’s Wild Foods Forager. The students were also addressed by Kevin Sheridan of Sheridan’s Cheeses, Chair of The Taste Council of Ireland.

The Sunday Business Post – 15th December 2013
